An Analysis of the Role of Parties in Political Participation: A Comparative Comparison of Iran and Turkey

Abstract

Currently, political parties, as one of the institutions of civil society, play a very important role in the world's political systems. The broad role of parties is very effective in shaping democracy, and their activities increase political participation as one of the components of democracy and political development. Today, political participation as a manifestation of the realization of the ideal of equality of human beings in natural and civil rights, has emerged in all societies and socio-political perspectives and has become a central political value. In this article, we compare the role of parties in political participation in Iran and Turkey. In this regard, using a descriptive-analytical method, we seek to answer the question that what is the difference between the role of parties in political participation in Iran and Turkey? People need motivation to increase political and electoral participation, and this motivation can be provided by civic institutions, including parties. Therefore, the existence of parties, in addition to increasing the political participation of the people, causes a systematic and legal political participation, which is more important in Turkey than in Iran, and this shows the greater role of Turkish parties in political participation than in Iran.
