The rapid and increasing growth of urbanization and the subsequent increase in the population of cities have had various consequences in various fields. Among the most important of these consequences, we can mention the increase in consumption and demand for energy resources. One of these important components of planning and urban design is the physical characteristics of the building, which affects the amount of energy consumption in this important sector, with a share of 40% of the total energy consumption in cities. Excessive energy consumption in the residential sector, especially in residential complexes, is one of the problems in hot and dry areas. The performance of different typologies of residential complexes in terms of energy consumption has been studied and researched in different climates, but specifically for the hot and dry climate of Kerman, the suitable type of residential complex is not recommended, and it is also not clear which formal proportions and window surface in Each type of residential complex is more suitable according to their importance in reducing energy consumption and increasing the hours of thermal comfort, so the purpose of this research is to determine the hours of thermal discomfort in different types of residential complexes in Kerman with different formal proportions and window surface ratio. to pure wall through simulation with DESIGN BUILDER software, which provides more hours of thermal comfort than other types of residential complex in the evaluation of simulation results of residential complexes with (L) shape plan. In residential complexes (L), the most optimal mode in terms of energy consumption and thermal comfort of the residents is a residential complex with a north-south orientation, a formal ratio of length to width of 1:1, and a window-to-wall ratio of 60%. The results of this research can be used by architects to determine the optimal type and determine the proportions and ratio of the window surface to the wall surface in the design of different patterns of residential complexes in Kerman region in order to increase energy efficiency.
