The existence of water is essential for food production, economic development, and the survival of living organisms. Today, issues such as population growth, improving living standards and health, expanding urbanization, and expanding agricultural industries have led to increased water consumption. The location of the Middle East region in the world's dry belt has caused this region to have only 1% of the world's available fresh water, despite having 5% of the world's population, which has led to competition and conflicts for the maximum use of these limited resources. Climate change and the occurrence of long periods of drought, the creation of development plans, especially in the agricultural and industrial sectors in border areas, and the growth of urban population are the most important factors that play an important role in creating and intensifying conflicts over shared border rivers. This article uses a descriptive-analytical method to examine the hydropolitical differences of border rivers in the Middle East in order to study and analyze the most important areas and reasons for the emergence and intensification of disputes between countries in the region over shared border rivers. Also, to achieve these factors, keywords were searched using the VOS viewer software to ensure the accuracy of these factors. Research findings show that the different interests of upstream and downstream countries, lack of proper management, extensive dam construction, climate change, and the interference of regional and transregional powers are the most important reasons for disputes over shared transboundary water resources.
