The vernacular architecture of Iran—particularly in the Baluchestan region—has rarely been studied in depth, despite its unique characteristics. The aim of this research is to examine and analyze the indicators of vernacular architecture in this region to develop strategies for enhancing the quality of contemporary rural housing in Baluchestan. The methodology includes library research, questionnaire data analysis, and field interviews. Field studies were conducted in two separate groups: experts and architects, and local residents—especially university students. Descriptive statistics such as frequency, mean, standard deviation, skewness, and kurtosis were used to interpret the data. For inferential statistics and hypothesis testing, one-sample t-tests and Friedman ranking tests were conducted using SPSS software at a significance level of 0.05. The analysis of findings played a key role in validating the research hypotheses. According to survey results, the main characteristics of Baluchestan’s rural vernacular architecture include harmony with nature, residents’ sense of permanent ownership, privacy and segregation in the home, hospitality and guest respect, simplicity of traditional homes, and the ability to host social gatherings such as holiday visits, weddings, and funerals. These features are highly valued and can be considered in future housing designs for the region. Respondents also made several recommendations for improving future housing, including increasing the building area, incorporating gardens and green spaces, enhancing natural light inside the house compared to older homes, adding courtyards and water ponds, and enlarging guest rooms. These suggestions play a significant role in improving housing quality.
