The Nationalization of the Iranian Oil Movement was more than an internal affair; it was an actor on the complex stage of global geopolitics. This research aims to analyze the causes of the rise and fall of this movement from the perspective of geopolitical factors. The central question is which international actors and forces played a decisive role in both its formation and its ultimate failure. This study employs a descriptive-analytical method, drawing upon historical documents and reputable sources. The findings indicate that the movement's emergence was made possible in the post-World War II climate, facilitated by the decline of British power, the onset of Cold War rivalries, and the awakening of anti-colonial movements. However, its decline is also rooted in this same geopolitical arena; Iran's strategic position and oil wealth directly threatened the interests of powers like Britain and the United States. The West's fear of Soviet influence and the potential for Iran to fall into the Eastern Bloc, combined with the economic losses inflicted on Britain by the nationalization, ultimately led to a covert alliance between these powers and the orchestration of the August 19, 1953, coup. Therefore, it can be concluded that while national will provided the groundwork for the movement's rise, it was ultimately this grand geopolitical game that sealed its fate, demonstrating that internal developments in countries with strategic resources are often a function of global power calculations.
