Abstract
Nowadays, tourists need to obtain information to make decision on their journey. So in order to obtain the required information organized travel agencies are needed. Therefore travel and tourism agencies act as mediator between the main suppliers of services such as hotels tour operators or transport companies and tourists who want to travel. Actually they are located in front of the line of tourism industry and are faced with the travel applicants. Success or failure of these mediators is highly effective on the success or failure of tourism programs and tourism service providers. This study was conducted to elucidate the role of travel agencies in tourism development in Isfahan. Therefore, the tourism development index was applied as combined benchmark for comparing the coupled tourism and travel agencies properties.
