Globalization, as a multidimensional process, has significantly influenced the cultural structures of urban societies in recent decades and has created conditions for the emergence of various forms of cultural tensions and conflicts. Among different social groups, youth are particularly exposed to these transformations. The present study aims to explore, through a phenomenological approach, the lived experiences of young people aged 15–24 in Tehran regarding cultural conflicts within society. This research was conducted using a qualitative approach and a descriptive–analytical phenomenological method. The participants consisted of ten young residents of Tehran who were selected through purposive and convenience sampling. Data were collected through in depth semi structured interviews, and theoretical saturation was achieved in the eighth interview. The collected data were analyzed using thematic analysis. The results of the analysis led to the extraction of five main categories: conceptualization of culture and cultural conflicts, intellectual and belief foundations, bases of decision making and practical action, lifestyle, and family culture. The findings indicate that the cultural conflicts experienced by Tehran’s youth are closely associated with transformations in the value system, rapid lifestyle changes, the emergence of new reference groups, and the misalignment between institutional policy making and the cultural needs of the younger generation. Accordingly, reconsideration of cultural policies and planning in accordance with the emerging needs of youth appears to be necessary in order to better manage or reduce such conflicts.
